The word “Yama-Biko" means "echo" in the mountains.
We share our skills and ideas with the world, and carefully take our customers and collaborators voices into consideration in improving our products. It is like listening to the “Yama-Biko".
The Japanese people of ancient times created the art of weaving and making baskets from wild grapes. Yama-Biko is a brand that inherits this traditional culture that is being forgotten. We deliver new values to these tradition and resources, and resonate widely throughout the world.
Tradition and knowledge from the past
Wild grape baskets are the result of traditional Japanese techniques that take advantage of the benefits of natural materials and are created only by human hands. We are always looking for new possibilities of weaving techniques and studying the potentials of the vines in order to inherit and improve this prideful skill and apply it to modern needs.
Beginning of Yama-Biko
Noriyuki Funyu and Kazutada Doi, with great passion for natural materials, we stumbled upon wild grape baskets.
Fascinated by the historic techniques and resources of nature, we decided to carry on the culture that was dying out. Yama-Biko was launched in 2012 with determination to develop and to spread the tradition globally.
